Arena/Stadium: ETIHAD City of Manchester Stadium
The two main title contenders in the EPL go head to head for the first time this season. With both teams coming off disappointing results in their midweek Champions League games, it is time to get back to the main business of the Premier League. Can Mourinho apply his famous defensive tactics against the massive firepower of Manchester City? Watch the Manchester City vs Chelsea stream live and free at vipbox and find out.
Manchester City must be feeling a little disheartened after being beaten by Bayern Munich with a last minute goal from former City defender Jerome Boateng. But on a positive note Joe Hart had an outstanding game. With Chelsea likely to keep a primarily defensive structure and try to attack on the break chances may be few and far between and Hart looks in form to stop all but the most deadly of strikes. Pellegrini may have more cause to worry over the form of Yaya Toure, who by general consensus, has been the main star of Manchester City in recent seasons. He has not played well in the last few games and if he doesn’t improve soon it could prove costly in what is seen by many as a title decider even so soon into the season.
Manchester City have not had the start to the season many had predicted. With an abundance of talent and a large squad of gifted players in every position some pundits had even said an unbeaten season was possible. With an opening win against Newcastle then an impressive 3-1 win over Liverpool fans were rubbing their hands in glee that the Champions seemed unstoppable. But a shock 1-0 defeat to Stoke and a less than impressive performance to draw 2-2 with Arsenal has left many scratching their heads.
Mourinho meanwhile has injury worries of his own with some doubt on the availability of Diego Costa who may be suffering from hamstring trouble. Costa who has already scored seven goals this season will be sorely missed in a game of this magnitude where any flash of brilliance or luck in the box could have profound consequences. Chelsea fan favourite Didier Drogba has not impressed since his return to Chelsea, but then Drogba was always the player who reveled in the big occasion.
With an impressive 15 goals in the Premier League already this season, some may wonder at what tactics Mourinho may employ. Maximum points from their first four games see them comfortably top of the table. With the form Chelsea are in, seemingly scoring at will, is it possible he could go on the attack from the start? Or is it more likely that he is a master of knowing which battles to fight and when and will close down any Man City creativity? Chelsea have won away from home at Manchester City more often than any other team in Barclays Premier League history (11 times). Can they repeat that again?
While most bookies seem to favour a Manchester City win, this really could be decided by a flash of brilliance, a stroke of luck or even a moment of madness. And oh, sweet irony of ironies were Frank Lampard to score the winning goal.
Manchester City vs Chelsea is one of the top games of the season. Simply unmissable. Will Manchester City’s fightback to retain its title start now or can Chelsea move farther ahead? Watch on vipleague, all the goals, all the tactics, all the drama!
