With just four races left the F1 action is hotting up. Enjoy all the action for the Formula 1 Russia GP on VIPLeague. While the Constructor’s Championship may be over with Mercedes nearly 300 points clear, the real battle is between the two Mercedes drivers. After victory in the last three races (Japan, Singapore and Italy) Lewis Hamilton now has a 10-point lead over team mate Nico Rosberg. Momentum is now firmly on Hamilton’s side which must have had some psychological impact on Rosberg.

Safety Car in front at Suzuka

Conditions at Japan’s Suzuka circuit were obviously not ideal with torrential rain from Typhoon Phanfone bringing on the Safety Car and a red flag after 2 laps. It is unclear how much this affected the later crash which left Jules Bianchi in critical condition, hospitalized after a crash. While all drivers accept the dangerous nature of the sport, it is hoped that they can put such crashes and injuries behind them as they head to Russia.

Formula One heads to territories new with the brand new Sochi circuit near the Black Sea in Russia: home of the 2014 Winter Olympic games. This is the first new circuit introduced to the Grand Prix calendar since Austin in 2012.

Third place driver Daniel Ricciardo has commented: “I think firstly, it’s always exciting to go a new venue, particularly a new circuit. As a driver it’s always nice to have something fresh and new and obviously Russia provides a new layout for us. I drove a few laps on the simulator already and I think it should be interesting. It’s always different in real life but I hope it can be a fun track. I don’t think we’ll know until we get there, but let’s hope it’s a good challenge for us.”

Sochi is a medium-speed circuit with a variety of different corners, including one left-hand corner inspired by the long triple apex Turn 8 at Istanbul Park. In total there are 12 right and six left-hand corners, with a 650-meter straight between the first and second turns, on which the cars are expected to hit a top speed of around 320kph. The average lap speed will be in the region of 215kph, with the track layout designed by renowned circuit architect Hermann Tilke, who also designed the circuit in  Austin,Texas.
